First rewarded, then exploited and rejected for his brilliance,
young inventor Paul Hadley quickly learns that the only person
he can trust is himself. His revolutionary ideas appear in journals,
magazines and even stores, credited to other inventors. Convinced
that the governments and corporations of the world are spying on
him and stealing his ideas, Paul disappears from the world in a
cloak of anonymity and settles into a daily routine of fine-tuning
his machine. He rewards his successes with brief excursions into
the outside world where he meets the vivacious Jenny, a waitress
at the local café.
One night, Paul and Jenny’s worlds collide when she returns a
forgotten notebook to his apartment. Her unexpected arrival
and mistaken identity results in a savage beating that thrusts Paul
into the public eye and Jenny into a dark coma. Privacy destroyed,
Paul struggles to protect himself and his invention from the prying
eyes of the Police and the media. A web of lies and mishaps soon
trap Paul and he becomes unsure of what is real and what is
fabricated. His life of obscurity and secrecy begin to crush him and
his mind becomes subject to the strain.
When Jenny awakes from the coma she insists Paul is not the
monster they portray him to be. At her request the police go
with her to Paul’s apartment so she can absolve him of any
wrongdoing. Upon arrival, they uncover the horrific crimes
hidden away in his apartment, and the truth behind Paul and
his conspiracy theory is revealed.
